Spring 2021 Syllabus

Mondays, 12:30-2:30 PM – 10 sessions

SHIUR LINK

This spring, Shiur will be facilitated by y’all! We’ll use the breakdown below to learn the first sugya of Masechet Ta’anit, which you have prepared in chevruta throughout this month. Chevruta meetings in between sessions should look as they always do: in between sessions, each chevruta should do chazara on the material covered in the previous week’s shiur, and prepare the assignment for next session.

Facilitating Shiur

As a facilitator of shiur, you’ll be in charge starting from 12:20 PM ET (when Laynie opens the Zoom room for you to get ready & set up all of your tech, if needed) until 2:20 PM ET (10 minutes before the end of our session). You’ll hold all four pieces of COMP (Culture, Orientation, Method, and Pedagogic Beliefs). You’ll open shiur, run tech for the day, and close us out. After you close, we’ll make space for 10 minutes of clap-ups and appreciations, and then Laynie will play the nigun to officially end our time together.

Tips for Preparing to Facilitate

• As facilitators, we’re aiming to “know” the text 80-20%. If we understand it at less than 80%, it is difficult to hold the container for learning that is necessary to guide others. If we don’t leave space for 20% of the text being unknown to us, we run the risk of not making space for co-learning in the bet midrash
