QUEER INTERFAITH MADRASA/BEIT MIDRASH

Gender and Sexuality in Islam, Judaism and Christianity

January 17 – 20, 2006

In this course we will read and explore the creation texts of the three traditions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity, with an eye to alternative constructions of gender and sexuality. An integral part of the course will be close readings and partner study, employing a queer interfaith adaptation of the traditional pedagogy of the bet midrash and madrasa. We hope that this will be a step towards developing an interfaith hermeneutics of reconciliation and cooperation.

Each Lecture will take place from 6:30-8:00 p.m.in the Fireside Room at Starr King School for the Ministry (2441 LeConte Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94709).

Free and open to the public and wheelchair accessible. This lecture series is in conjunction with a weeklong course offered at the Graduate Theological Union.
