Practicum Observation

Now that you’ve scheduled your practicum and are getting ready to start teaching (or are in the thick of it!), it’s time to think about your Practicum Observation. This is an opportunity to reflect on your teaching in SVARA’s method, to get feedback from Julie or  Julie, and to bring attention to the areas of growth you’d like to focus on in mentorship and beyond.

When you’ve selected the dates & times of your bet midrash…

• Share them with your mentor and Julie/Laynie
• Then Julie/Laynie will reach out to you to set up two meetings:
  • 1) a time to meet about your teaching to learn more about your goals and what you’d like to pay attention to
  • 2) a time to debrief the session within one week

During your teaching…

• If it’s virtual, Julie/Laynie will join your bet midrash in real time
• If you’re teaching in person, you can record your session and send it to Julie/Laynie to watch before your debrief

After your teaching…

• Fill out this debrief guide. (Be sure you ‘make a copy’ of this doc!) Once you fill it out, send it to Laynie/Julie. They’ll fill out their own version, and this document will drive your post-bet midrash debrief.
• Then, you and Julie/Laynie will both share your filled-out guides with your mentor, and you’ll talk through them in your next mentorship session, focusing on the “next steps” section.
